Earth Day is a reminder to be thoughtful of environmental protection and the products we back. We’re excited to share some details about the sustainability initiative taken by the makers of many of our favorite chairs that we offer on Ergify.
Not only does Via Seating design, engineer and make durable and beautiful ergonomic chairs, they build them with a huge focus on sustainability.
Throughout their process, Via Seating is always looking to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, water use and solid waste. And they use materials that are environmentally friendly and safe for our customers to use.
Limited Water Usage
Water is a precious commodity for everyone, especially in the high desert valley surrounding Sparks, Nevada – where Via Seating is located. With this in mind, they have figured out how to eliminate all H2O beyond the measured amount they use to steam wrinkles out of the final, upholstered product. Every. Drop. Counts.
Safe Product Usage
Via Seating are committed to using products that are safe for the environment as well as the individuals who use them. As a standard practice, Via Seating works consistently to identify hazardous chemicals and eliminate them from their products.
Hazardous Chemicals Via Seating Does NOT Use:
- hazardous phthalates
- hexavalent chromium
- ozone depletors
- PBDE fire retardants
Another thing we think is very cool is Via Seating’s intentional use of highly recyclable products. This includes aluminum, steel, polyurethane and nylon. And they intentionally label their products so that at the end (of their typically very long life) you can easily identify how to recycle each part – that is something not everyone takes the time to do. Also, in the rare event that a component of your chair is damaged, Via Seating encourages you to contact them to replace that component, instead of having to throw out the whole chair.
Testing & Certification
Last thing, Via Seating puts each of their chairs through an extensive sustainability testing and certification process so they can be certified, including LEVEL® (BIFMA sustainability certification program for furniture), VOC+, and LEED®. You can see each chair’s certifications on their product page under the section labeled SUSTAINABILITY.
